The San Diego Chargers struggled to compete in the AFC West division last season for the first time in quite some time. Not only did they fail to win the division title, but they were unable to get back into the playoffs to contend for a Super Bowl title. The one bright spot for the Chargers last year was their prolific passing game. Continue Reading…
Last season the Oakland Raiders were finally able to get back on the right track as they had their first successful season in about a decade. Even though they didn’t make it back to the playoffs, Al Davis’ team was able to some signs of promise as they had the second best rushing attack in the league with running backs Darren McFadden and Michael Bush leading the way and went undefeated in divisional play with a 6-0 record. It could be debated at this point in time that the Oakland Raiders are the biggest losers in NFL free agency this year. Not only did they lose arguably their best player in Nnamdi Asomugha (Philadelphia Eagles), but they also lost arguably their best offensive weapon next to running back Darren McFadden in tight end Zach Miller (Seattle Seahawks). Over the past few years, the San Francisco 49ers has had problems at both the quarterback and wide receiver position. Obviously, with players like Steve Young, Joe Montana and Jerry Rice playing those two positions in the history of the 49ers, the pressure has been on this storied NFL franchise to fill the empty shoes at quarterback and wide receiver but they have failed to do so. Just when the Brett Favre rumors and speculation about yet another comeback started to disappear into the darkness forever, the three-time NFL MVP quarterback becomes relevant once again as there is still one team that is in desperate need of a veteran quarterback. The Miami Dolphins have been looking for a quarterback to fill the gigantic shoes of NFL legend Dan Marino for quite some time, but have never gotten any player that could come close to getting this prolific passing game back on track. The Philadelphia Eagles might be dubbed the big winners of the free agent frenzy in the NFL, but not far behind them is the New York Jets as Rex Ryan and company have also added some key pieces to the puzzle in order to continue to be perennial Super Bowl title contenders moving forward. The biggest move they made during the offseason was without a doubt the re-signing of former Super Bowl MVP wide receiver Santonio Holmes, but they were also able to add Plaxico Burress and re-sign Antonio Cromartie. The free agency frenzy in the NFL is quickly coming to an end in terms of big-name players being available. One position that has had more big-name players than any other during NFL free agency has been at wide receiver. With plenty of Pro Bowl caliber talent at wide receiver available to the highest bidder, teams struggling at wide receiver have been able to get some considerable upgrades, but there are only two names left on the list that teams are showing serious interest in. One of the last big-name free agents available in the NFL right now is without a doubt wide receiver Braylon Edwards formerly of the New York Jets. With the Jets going in a different direction by making Santonio Holmes their number one receiver and signing free agent veteran Plaxico Burress, Braylon Edwards has been forced to look elsewhere for work. Even though Edwards is very talented and arguably one of the best wideouts in the league today, the free agent can be baggage and a gamble for his new team. Continue Reading…
The Oakland Raiders have done it again as they have let a Pro Bowl caliber player slip through their fingers after tight end Zach Miller signed with the Seattle Seahawks. Not only have the Raiders lost their best all-around player in Nnamdi Asomugha (Philadelphia Eagles), but now they have lost arguably their best offensive player behind running back Darren McFadden. At this point in time, the Philadelphia Eagles have been the big winner during this crazy free agent frenzy in the NFL as they were able to land the most sought after free agent in cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. Not only were they able to get their hands on arguably the best cornerback in the league, but they were also able to bring in cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, backup quarterback Vince Young and now running back Ronnie Brown.
