Chicago Bears @ Denver Broncos Sun. Dec. 11, 2011 4:05 p.m. EST
The Chicago Bears and the Denver Broncos are two NFL teams going in completely different directions. Not all that long ago, the Bears were headed for the playoffs through the NFC Wild Card and would try to dethrone the defending Super Bowl champion and arch rival Chicago Bears. Now that doesn’t appear to be the case with franchise quarterback Jay Cutler going down and the team being handed over to Caleb Haine.
The Donovan McNabb era in Minnesota is officially over as the Vikings have decided to waive the veteran quarterback in order to avoid paying the $1.6 million remaining on his contract for this season. With that being said, the 13-year veteran will be available to be picked up by other teams around the league and with all the recent injuries to starting quarterback like Jay Cutler (Chicago Bears), Matt Cassel (Kansas City Chiefs), Matt Schaub (Houston Texans) and Matt Leinart (Houston Texans) there should be no shortage of interested parties.
As for the Denver Broncos, Tim Tebow and company have gone from being one of the worst teams in the league to a team on the verge of winning the AFC West division title and finally getting back into the playoffs. Even though Tebow is criticized every time he takes the field for the Broncos, the former Heisman winner has been almost perfect as the starter in the Mile High City with six wins in this last seven games.
With Tebow doing nothing but winning football games as of late, the Denver Broncos are moving up and looking like a team on the rise in the NFL. One of the best parts of the Broncos franchise right now is the defense and that should be the difference in this game with Elvis Dumervil and company putting a lot of pressure on Caleb Haine.
As of right now, the Denver Broncos have been given the edge in this matchup with a -4 point spread in their favor. This spread is pretty much on the money in my opinion as the Broncos should come out on top and cover in Week 14. The Bears defense might give Tebow some trouble, but in the end taking the Broncos is the best bet.
