The Oakland Raiders have done it again as they have let a Pro Bowl caliber player slip through their fingers after tight end Zach Miller signed with the Seattle Seahawks. Not only have the Raiders lost their best all-around player in Nnamdi Asomugha (Philadelphia Eagles), but now they have lost arguably their best offensive player behind running back Darren McFadden.
This move has me scratching my head from an Oakland Raiders perspective, but it is a brilliant move by Pete Carroll and company as they now have a well-rounded offense. The signing of Pro Bowl wide receiver Sidney Rice was their best move this offseason, but signing tight end Zach Miller just makes this offense that much better with much more options for quarterback Tarvaris Jackson.
Personally, I believe the Seattle Seahawks should be looking for a better quarterback because I’m not sure if Tarvaris Jackson can get the job done no matter who he has to throw to next season. The problem is that the options at quarterback are slim to say the least right now with Matt Hasselback going to the Tennessee Titans, Kevin Kolb being traded to the Arizona Cardinals and Vince Young signing with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Reportedly, the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to sign Zach Miller to a five-year deal for $34 million dollars with $17 million guaranteed. Lucrative deal for a tight end in the NFL that isn’t named Antonio Gates (San Diego Chargers), but he seems to be worth it for a team in desperate need of an upgraded passing game.
Like I said before, this move to acquire tight end Zach Miller and the deal with wide receiver Sidney Rice could be all for nothing if they don’t bring in the right quarterback to lead the offense.
