Over the past few years, the San Francisco 49ers has had problems at both the quarterback and wide receiver position. Obviously, with players like Steve Young, Joe Montana and Jerry Rice playing those two positions in the history of the 49ers, the pressure has been on this storied NFL franchise to fill the empty shoes at quarterback and wide receiver but they have failed to do so.
Fortunately, the San Francisco 49ers may have started to turn the corner coming into next season with a new head coach in Jim Harbaugh, re-sign quarterback in Alex Smith and recently free agent signing of wide receiver Braylon Edwards.
There have been a lot of rumors flying around the Bay Area as of late in terms of the San Francisco 49ers looking for another wide receiver to play across from wide receiver Michael Crabtree and tight end Vernon Davis. A few free agent wide receivers like Malcom Floyd and Plaxico Burress had been rumored to be on their way to San Francisco, but in the end the 49ers decided to sign Braylon Edwards to a one-year deal.
Reportedly, the San Francisco 49ers has agreed to sign Braylon Edwards to a one-year deal worth $3.5 million dollars. This is bit on the low side considering the kind of player that Edwards has been over the years, but an absolute steal for the 49ers as they could just cut their ties with the veteran wideout after one season if things don’t work out as planned.
As of right now, the San Francisco 49ers seem to be done wheeling-and-dealing, but it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that they might go after another free agent wide receiver like Malcom Floyd before next season. Floyd has a few teams interested, but might end up leaning towards the 49ers before it is all said and done.
