The free agency frenzy in the NFL is quickly coming to an end in terms of big-name players being available. One position that has had more big-name players than any other during NFL free agency has been at wide receiver. With plenty of Pro Bowl caliber talent at wide receiver available to the highest bidder, teams struggling at wide receiver have been able to get some considerable upgrades, but there are only two names left on the list that teams are showing serious interest in.
The first name on that list of free agent wide receivers left is Braylon Edwards. The consensus coming into free agency was that he would re-sign with the New York Jets, but after the team re-signed Santonio Holmes to a lucrative deal and signed veteran wideout Plaxico Burress, Braylon Edwards is looking elsewhere to cash in.
The second name on the free agent list at wide receiver below Braylon Edwards is Malcom Floyd. With the San Diego Chargers coming to terms with Pro Bowler Vincent Jackson, the consensus is that Malcom Floyd is most likely done in San Diego and is exploring his options around the league.
Last season Malcom Floyd had a breakout season in place of Vincent Jackson, but isn’t being rewarded for his efforts by the San Diego Chargers. Even though the San Diego Chargers seem ready to pass on Malcom Floyd, the Oakland Raiders, Minnesota Vikings, Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens and the Arizona Cardinals are interested in retaining his services.
Every single team mentioned above is in desperate need of an upgrade at wide receiver, but the most interesting team in the running is the Oakland Raiders. With the Raiders losing tight end Zach Miller (Seattle Seahawks) and in need of a wideout for quarterback Jason Campbell, they could make an aggressive move for Malcom Floyd.
