The San Diego Chargers struggled to compete in the AFC West division last season for the first time in quite some time. Not only did they fail to win the division title, but they were unable to get back into the playoffs to contend for a Super Bowl title. The one bright spot for the Chargers last year was their prolific passing game.

With quarterback Philip Rivers coming into his own and getting a lot of talk as a legitimate NFL MVP candidate for the first time in his career, the San Diego Chargers were firing on all cylinders through the air with perennial Pro Bowl tight end Antonio Gates and up-and-coming wide receiver Malcom Floyd having some big numbers.

Coming into NFL free agency, the Chargers had to make a decision on Pro Bowl wide receiver Vincent Jackson and wideout Malcom Floyd. Jackson’s deal was much more complicated, but the Chargers were able to lock him up. Floyd on the other hand was on the market to the highest bidder and looked like he might be headed elsewhere with up to seven teams interested in signing him.

Fortunately for San Diego, Malcom Floyd decided to accept the two-year deal from the Chargers. Even though it appeared that the Baltimore Ravens were close to signing the free agent wide receiver, Floyd ended up staying with the San Diego Chargers, but the details of the deal haven’t been disclosed.

With both Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd returning to play alongside arguably the best tight end in the game in Antonio Gates, the San Diego Chargers will almost certainly have one of the best offenses in the league yet again with quarterback Philip Rivers destined to have another impressive MVP caliber season.
