The Philadelphia Eagles might be dubbed the big winners of the free agent frenzy in the NFL, but not far behind them is the New York Jets as Rex Ryan and company have also added some key pieces to the puzzle in order to continue to be perennial Super Bowl title contenders moving forward. The biggest move they made during the offseason was without a doubt the re-signing of former Super Bowl MVP wide receiver Santonio Holmes, but they were also able to add Plaxico Burress and re-sign Antonio Cromartie.
Now that the free agent frenzy has started to die down a bit in the NFL, the teams around the league are getting their new players into camp and preparing for the upcoming NFL regular season. Even though most teams seem to be content with their current squads and the upgrades they have made, the New York Jets continue to make moves as they just cut wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery and added veteran Derrick Mason in his place.
There have been rumors flying around the Big Apple that the Jets could still try and re-sign wide receiver Braylon Edwards, but after Thursday’s addition at wide receiver the Jets might be content with the receiving corps they have in place. Derrick Mason might no longer be amongst the best at his position and isn’t getting any younger, but his veteran leadership might be just what this team needs moving forward.
As for Braylon Edwards, the Arizona Cardinals seem to be one team that is most interested in signing the free agent wide receiver. There are a few other teams in the mix like the San Francisco 49ers. Jerricho Cotchery is also getting a lot of consideration for the San Francisco 49ers and the San Diego Chargers.
