It is no secret that the San Francisco 49ers has a quarterback controversy on their hands with veteran Alex Smith not exactly living up to new head coach Jim Harbaugh’s expectations and rookie gunslinger Colin Kaepernick making a case as the starter heading into the second week of the preseason. Even though there is a quarterback competition between these two and one of these two will be the starter Week 1, the plot thickens as it looks as though the 49ers are looking to bring in veteran quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Heading into Saturday’s NFL preseason games, everyone was looking forward to seeing the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers getting back on the field. With the Packers back to full health with the exception of tight end Jermichael Finley who was held out as a precaution, the consensus was that the Cleveland Browns would be in for a long day trying to keep up with the potent offense and lockdown defense of Green Bay. New York Jets at Houston Texans Mon. Aug. 15, 2011 8 p.m. EST
The last game of the first week of the NFL preseason could be the best one yet as the Super Bowl title contending New York Jets are set to take on the up-and-coming Houston Texans at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.
Coming into this Monday Night Football matchup, the Jets will be looking to show that they haven’t missed a step during the offseason and will be set on winning a Super Bowl title. The preseason doesn’t usually showcase the best football being played as the starters tend to get just one quarter of action, but head coach Rex Ryan might want to get his boys back in shape and ready for the regular season. Every single season over the past decade or so, the Baltimore Ravens have been a perennial playoff team in the AFC Conference with a chance at contending for a Super Bowl title. There is no question that before quarterback Joe Flacco came to Baltimore that the Ravens were seriously deficient in the passing game, but even though the offense suffered through the air the Ravens have always been solid on the ground.
