New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys Sun. Dec. 11, 2011 8:20 p.m. EST
Last week the New York Giants defended their home field against the undefeated Green Bay Packers with a much better performance than anticipated. Despite still losing the game to the defending Super Bowl champions, Eli Manning and company may have gotten back on the right track on both sides of the football.
The Donovan McNabb era in Minnesota is officially over as the Vikings have decided to waive the veteran quarterback in order to avoid paying the $1.6 million remaining on his contract for this season. With that being said, the 13-year veteran will be available to be picked up by other teams around the league and with all the recent injuries to starting quarterback like Jay Cutler (Chicago Bears), Matt Cassel (Kansas City Chiefs), Matt Schaub (Houston Texans) and Matt Leinart (Houston Texans) there should be no shortage of interested parties.
In Week 14, the Giants will play arguably their most important game of the season when they travel to Dallas to take on the arch division rival Cowboys. As it always is, this NFC East showdown should be a battle from start to finish with game coming down to the wire just like it did last week against the Packers.
Coming into this game, both division rivals will be coming off of losses, but both teams are in the running for the NFC East division title. With that being said, this is basically a playoff game as it may determine the outcome in the division and which one of these talented teams is playoff bound.
The Cowboys have been impressive over the last few weeks of the season with some solid play on both sides of the football, but they are coming off a disappointing loss to the Arizona Cardinals which may have exposed some flaws that the Giants will look to take advantage of. Dallas is arguably the better team right now, but New York has the ability to pull off the upset against their division rivals.
As of right now, the Dallas Cowboys have been given the edge in this NFC East division showdown with a -3 point spread. With this game being played at home and with so much at stake, I believe Tony Romo and company come out on top while covering the spread.
