NFL Power Rankings: 49ers make it into Top 5

#1 Green Bay Packers (6-0)

The cheese heads were able to do it again in Week 6 as they made easy work of the lowly St. Louis Rams, 24-3. Even though this wasn’t as dominant a performance as many expected offensively, Aaron Rodgers and company did enough to get the win and improve to a perfect 6-0 record.

Not until Week 8 will be the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers get tested as they will almost certainly improved to 7-0 with a win over the division rival Minnesota Vikings next week and could have their hands full against the San Diego Chargers in Week 8. Continue Reading…

NFL Week 7: San Diego Chargers @ New York Jets

San Diego Chargers @ New York Jets Sun. Oct. 23, 2011 1 p.m. EST

It might be time to hit the panic button for Rex Ryan and his New York Jets as they are not the same team they have been over the last two years and are competing against two very good teams in the AFC East in the up-and-coming Buffalo Bills and the always dominant New England Patriots. Even though the Jets are coming off a win over the division rival Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football, Mark Sanchez and company will need to play extremely well in the second half of the NFL regular season just to clinch a playoff spot in the AFC Conference. NFL Week 7: Chicago Bears @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Chicago Bears @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sun. Oct. 23, 2011 1 p.m. EST

Last season the Chicago Bears were one of the best all-around teams in the NFL with a legitimate shot of contending for a Super Bowl title, but they fell just short of reaching the big game after falling to the arch rival Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game. With quarterback Jay Cutler going down with a knee injury and the Bears defense not being able to hold off Aaron Rodgers and company, Chicago had to go home and start licking wounds. Oakland Raiders acquire veteran quarterback Carson Palmer via trade

The last two weeks have been very emotional and taxing for the Oakland Raiders as they have had to deal with the loss of NFL innovator and controversial owner Al Davis. With the Raiders having their best season in years and a legitimate shot of contending for a playoff spot and an AFC West division title, Oakland has been a fun team to watch this season, but just a week after losing their owner they have also lost starting quarterback Jason Campbell to a broken collarbone. Mike Shanahan benches Rex Grossman in favor of John Beck in Washington

The Washington Redskins have been a mess over the last few years with owner Daniel Snyder doing everything within his power and his wallet to try and turn this struggling NFL franchise around. Fortunately, before last season the controversial owner made some moves to drastically improve this team and one of those moves was bringing in two-time Super Bowl champion head coach Mike Shanahan. Donovan McNabb gets benched in favor of Christian Ponder in Minnesota

It seems that the Washington Redskins and the Minnesota Vikings haven’t been too happy with their new quarterback situation as both teams have decided to make a change heading into Week 7. The switch in Washington wasn’t much of a surprise as no one gave Rex Grossman much of a chance to be the starter throughout the regular season, but the switch in Minnesota to rookie Christian Ponder and benching of veteran Donovan McNabb has turned some heads. Oakland Raiders lose quarterback Jason Campbell to broken collarbone

The Oakland Raiders are definitely on the right track this season as they have already gotten half as many wins this season (4) as they did last season (8) and look like they could be playoff bound for the first time since 2002. The Raiders did suffer a big loss recently with the death of longtime owner and NFL legend Al Davis, but the team continues to fire on all cylinders and has become a legitimate contender in the AFC Conference this season. Denver Broncos trade Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Lloyd to St. Louis Rams

Last week the Denver Broncos made a bold decision by making the change at quarterback by choosing to start second-year gunslinger Tim Tebow under center for Week 7 in place of veteran Kyle Orton. With the Broncos offense making this drastic change and going with a different approach with Tebow under center, the first order of business was to look at shipping out wide receivers with value like Eddie Royal and Pro Bowl wideout Brandon Lloyd. New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sun. Oct. 16, 2011 4:15 p.m. EST

Last season the NFC South division was arguably one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL with three legitimate contenders for the division title, but this season things have changed once again with the New Orleans Saints being the clear favorite to reclaim the division title and cruise into the playoffs. NFL Week 6: Romo and the Dallas Cowboys battle Brady and the New England Patriots

Dallas Cowboys @ New England Patriots Sun. Oct. 16, 2011 4:15 p.m. EST

Once again quarterback Tony Romo has been blamed for all the problems the Dallas Cowboys are going through this season as America’s Team comes into Week 6 with a disappointing 2-2 record. At this point in time, it has gotten pretty ridiculous in Dallas when it comes to Romo and the kind of negative press the Pro Bowl gunslinger gets on a weekly basis. There is no question that Romo has single-handedly blown games with his costly mistakes, but to blame him for everything going wrong in Big D is a little too much. Continue Reading…
