Oakland Raiders lose quarterback Jason Campbell to broken collarbone

The Oakland Raiders are definitely on the right track this season as they have already gotten half as many wins this season (4) as they did last season (8) and look like they could be playoff bound for the first time since 2002. The Raiders did suffer a big loss recently with the death of longtime owner and NFL legend Al Davis, but the team continues to fire on all cylinders and has become a legitimate contender in the AFC Conference this season.

Even though things seem to be on the up-and-up in Oakland right now with the team looking much better than anticipated, the Raiders suffered another huge loss in Week 6 with starting quarterback Jason Campbell going down with a broken collarbone. This injury isn’t considered severe and just needs time to heal, but it will require surgery and will keep him out up to six weeks. With the starter now down and no faith in backup Kyle Boller, the Raiders have been looking other options like free agent veteran David Garrard.

Unfortunately, David Garrard just underwent surgery for a herniated disk and that has apparently made him unavailable. Two other options for the Raiders are free agent Josh McCown and recently retired (or so he says) veteran Carson Palmer.

There were rumors floating around Oakland that the Raiders were interested in Carson Palmer before the season began, but the Cincinnati Bengals have been adamant about not trading their former face of the franchise just on principle. The Bengals may end up changing their stance depending on what the Raiders would be willing to give up in a trade, but smart money says it probably won’t happen considering the fact that the Cincinnati still has a bitter taste in their mouth due to Palmer’s actions in the off-season.
