The New York Jets are on the verge of some drastic changes in the Big Apple. Last season’s performance was unacceptable by the team’s standards and for good reason with the Jets finishing the year with a 6-10 record and missing the NFL playoffs as a result.
The team’s front office gambled in the off-season before the 2012 campaign by acquiring popular backup quarterback Tim Tebow from the Denver Broncos via trade. Tebow had made a huge impression with the Broncos a season earlier and the team believed the former Heisman trophy winner would make the offense that much more dynamic.
Unfortunately, that move backfired and the team began to fall apart with Mark Sanchez losing his starting job and many of the team’s best players going down with season-ending injuries.
The Jets lost arguably the best NFL cornerback Darrelle Revis two wins into the season and former Super Bowl MVP wide receiver Santonio Holmes shortly after. Both players going down for the year proved to be costly with the defense and offense both taking major blows resulting in the team’s struggles moving forward.
Now that the team has officially gotten the off-season underway, the team seems set on trading Revis before the elite corner can leave the team in free agency after next season.
Apparently, head coach Rex Ryan has said that the team isn’t pursuing a deal to send Revis elsewhere. Ryan has backed Revis throughout the entire process and hopes he’ll return next season, but all indications seem to be leaning towards the team ultimately sending him to another team before next season.
Revis’ trade value still remains high regardless of the veteran coming off a season-ending knee injury that required surgery to repair a torn ACL. Although the team will keep the stance of not trading Revis, the writing appears to be on the wall in New York.
