#1 Denver Broncos (12-3)
The Broncos are finally getting the respect they deserve after winning 10 games in a row and on the verge of potentially going the distance in the playoffs.
Peyton Manning and company will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 17 and possibly clinch home field in the process. No doubting that this Broncos team is the best all-around squad in the NFL with a great chance of being Super Bowl bound.
#2 Atlanta Falcons (13-2)
After taking down the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants (34-0) and Detroit Lions (31-18) in consecutive weeks, the Falcons have clinched the top seed in the NFC.
With home field advantage throughout the playoffs, Atlanta may be a tough team to beat at the Georgia Dome. Matt Ryan and company will need to prove that there is the real deal with at least one win in the playoffs in order to be considered a legitimate Super Bowl title contender.
#3 San Francisco 49ers (10-4-1)
The 49ers were considered the best team in the NFL after a convincing victory over the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Week 15. Unfortunately, that distinction disappears quickly after the devastating loss to the division rival Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
#4 Green Bay Packers (11-4)
After pounding the Tennessee Titans with 55 points and holding them to only seven points in garbage time, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers appear to be back to form at just the right time.
#5 New England Patriots (11-4)
The loss to the 49ers in Week 15 was tough to swallow for Bill Belichick’s squad, but the Patriots didn’t do anything in Week 16 against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars to make their case as the best team in the AFC.
New England will be dangerous in the playoffs as always, but may be beginning to expose some flaws.
