It has been eight days now since All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis has decided to holdout from New York Jets training camp, but even though he could very well have a new deal in place and rejoin the team before the NFL regular season begins on September 13th against the Baltimore Ravens, head coach Rex Ryan has said that he is ready to move on without his best defensive player.
There is no question at this point in time that Darrelle Revis is arguably the best cornerback in the league and only makes the New York Jets a better team on the defensive side of the football, but even without Revis intimidating opposing quarterbacks, the Jets are still a very good team and a Super Bowl title contender.
With that being said, I don’t blame Rex Ryan for saying that he is willing to move on without his superstar cornerback as it will be nothing, but a distraction moving forward and the last a team as good as the New York Jets needs coming into a season with promising future.
Even though there are serious doubts about whether or not the New York Jets will be able to come to an agreement with Darrelle Revis before the beginning of next season and maybe well into it, I believe the Jets will get a deal done as soon as possible as opposing offenses will look to take advantage of the secondary without Revis.
It will be interesting to see what happens from here on out because even though Rex Ryan claims the team will be moving on without him, the defensive minded head coach knows the importance of having his best defensive player in the secondary as Darrelle Revis will be sorely missed and needed if the Jets want to compete against the best offenses in the league next season.
