Every single season over the past decade or so, the Baltimore Ravens have been a perennial playoff team in the AFC Conference with a chance at contending for a Super Bowl title. There is no question that before quarterback Joe Flacco came to Baltimore that the Ravens were seriously deficient in the passing game, but even though the offense suffered through the air the Ravens have always been solid on the ground.
Over the past two seasons, the Baltimore Ravens have been one of the best running teams in the league with Pro Bowl running back Ray Rice leading the way. Last season wasn’t productive as his rookie season in Baltimore, but Rice still got the job done. Now Ray Rice’s job may have gotten even easier as the Pro Bowler will have solid partner in crime in the form of running back Ricky Williams.
During this offseason, the Baltimore Ravens let veteran running back Willis McGahee go and test free agency. After McGahee signed with the Denver Broncos, the Ravens needed to fill the void in their backfield and they did just that with a former Heisman trophy winner.
Ricky Williams may have never turned out to be what people expected he would be out of Texas as a Heisman trophy winner and the next big thing in the NFL out of the backfield, but he can still put up the numbers when given the chance. During his time with the Miami Dolphins, Ricky Williams proved he can be productive in a two running back backfield and that is what he will try to continue to do with the Baltimore Ravens alongside Ray Rice.
Reportedly, Ricky Williams has signed a two-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens for $2.5 million dollars. The contract could be worth up to as much as $4 million dollars if Williams plays well.
