New York Mets’ Daniel Murphy has incurred an injury to his right knee in the Minor Leagues. This injury is said to keep him out the rest of this season. Murphy has already been out this year due to a right knee sprain that he finally recovered from prior to this new injury.
The 25-year-old was at AAA Buffalo playing second base this past Wednesday attempting to turn a double play and a runner slid right into him. After examining Murphy, it seems that although his injured knew ill not require surgery, the injury will take anywhere from four to six months (not weeks! Yikes!) to heal.
Further, he is actually suffering from a MCL tear of a high grade in his right knee. Seeing as how it is the same knee that has kept him out thus far this year, many speculate that the this week’s injury is somehow related to his previous knee troubles. However, the Mets claim that this new injury that has occurred this week has nothing to do with Murphy’s previous knee sprain.
Left-handed Murphy has been on the disabled list due to the recovery of his right knee sprain and just arrived at AAA Buffalo late in the month last month. At the time, he was being prepped to be a utility infielder prior to suffering from his injury Wednesday.
Last season with the New York Mets, Murphy had 12 home runs and hit a .266. He was the standard first baseman for the Mets last season, which was his very first complete season in the Major Leagues.
