The Los Angeles Dodgers may be playing the San Diego Padres tonight to attempt to win their 10th consecutive game, but Manny Ramirez won’t find his name on the lineup for the game after an injury to his left foot during warm-up practices prior to the game.
Ramirez just came off the disabled list earlier this month, May 8, after being on it from April 23. He was placed on the disabled list last month due to a strained calf muscle. This injury that left fielder Ramirez has suffered tonight appears to not be related to the strained calf muscle from last month.
To replace Manny Ramirez in the lineup tonight, the Dodges optioned Xavier Paul. Paul will take right field and Reed Johnson will be moved to left field. Reed Johnson was supposed to be in right field replacing injured Andre Ethier; however, was moved to right so that Paul could fill in right field. He was initially contacted Tuesday to be the replacement for Ethier, who has a broken right pinkie finger from a Saturday practice and was placed on the disabled list.
The San Diego Padres have only lost one of the last eight games that they have traveled for and have claimed victories at Dodger Stadium for three of the previous four games. As for the Dodgers, they have won nine consecutive games, which consists of 11 of the previous 12 and 14 of the previous 17. If Los Angeles can beat San Diego and claim a victory tonight at Dodger Stadium, they will catch up with the Padres, who are currently first in the standings for the National League West.
The Dodgers and Padres have a two-game series with the first occurring tonight. Will the Dodgers be able to make their 10th consecutive win and catch the Padres in the NL West standings?
