TE Anthony McCoy Signs with Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks made an announcement today that they have signed TE Anthony McCoy, draft pick from the sixth round of the 2010 NFL draft, to a multi-year contract deal. The terms of the deal were not released when the announcement was made on Tuesday; however, there was a post on the National Football Post saying that the deal was a $1.895 million four-year contract.

22-year-old tight end McCoy was drafted in this year’s draft as the 185th overall pick coming from USC, where McCoy spent time with Pete Carroll, who is the current coach for the Seattle Seahawks.

Many were shocked that the Seahawks even drafted McCoy due to the fact that he was appearing in the media as testing positive to a marijuana test this past February. He had also been initially considered to be drafted within the second or third round of the draft. However, he was still drafted in the sixth round and after the draft, Carroll stated that McCoy was the team’s greatest value pick. From the way that Carroll speaks of McCoy, you can clearly see that he thinks a lot of the 6’5”, 250-pound tight end.

McCoy’s career stats include 49 receptions for 731 yards and 3 touchdowns. In his 2009 season, he posted 22 of the 42 receptions for 457 of the 731 yards and completed one touchdown.

McCoy’s spot on the roster is likely to be the place of LenDale White, who was released this past Friday from the Seahawks. With McCoy signing a deal with Seattle, there are now eight unsigned draft picks as he was the first of the nine from the 2010 NFL draft picks. The Seahawks have yet to sign two of their first round draft picks Earl Thomas and Russell Okung. However, training camp is just around the corner so more picks will be signed soon.
