#1 Houston Texans (10-1)
The Texans were able to fend off the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions in overtime in consecutive weeks, but despite tough tests against inferior teams, Matt Schaub and company remain atop the power rankings.
The last five weeks of the season won’t get any easier for Houston with matchups against the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts (twice) and Minnesota Vikings. All winnable games, but tough competition regardless.
#2 Atlanta Falcons (10-1)
The Falcons have lost one game all season long and that might change to two losses on the year at the hands of the same team with Drew Brees’ New Orleans Saints coming town on Thursday.
Atlanta plays as well as any team in the NFL at home with the Georgia Dome being a tough place to play as any. It’ll be interesting to see if Brees can lead the Saints to another victory over their division rivals away from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
#3 San Francisco 49ers (8-2-1)
Colin Kaepernick or Alex Smith?
The debate rages on in the Bay Area with head coach Jim Harbaugh leaning towards keeping Kaepernick as his starters until he proves unworthy. Bad news for Smith, but great news for San Francisco as two capable quarterbacks has worked in the 49ers’ favor in the past.
#4 Baltimore Ravens (9-2)
A second showdown with the arch division rival Pittsburgh Steelers will take place in Week 13 with the Ravens likely to come out on top and coast to another AFC North division title. Although Ben Roethlisberger might be given the green light for this game, Baltimore has been flawless at home this season.
#5 New England Patriots (8-3)
As arguably the most underrated Super Bowl title contender this season, Tom Brady and company have gotten red-hot as of late with five straight wins. The Patriots continue to dominate offensively and have gotten a boost defensively with the addition of Aqib Talib.
