Steelers @ Browns Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012 1 p.m. ET
Over the last few weeks of the season, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been ravaged by numerous injuries on the offensive side of the football. As if the Steelers losing two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger to multiple injuries (shoulder, rib) wasn’t bad enough, Big Ben’s backup in Byron Leftwich went down a week later with seemingly identical injuries.
With Roethlisberger and Leftwich ruled out for Week 12 against the division rival Cleveland Browns, head coach Mike Tomlin will start 37-year-old veteran Charlie Batch under center. Along with a quarterback pushing 40, the Steelers will also be without receivers Antonio Brown and Jerricho Cotchery.
In an effort to fill the void in the receiving corps, Pittsburgh signed free-agent veteran Plaxico Burress. Not a bad option considering the circumstances, but it remains to be seen whether or not Burress is in the same form he was last season with the New York Jets after two years in prison.
Fortunately, the Steelers will be facing off against the lowly division rival Browns on Sunday and might be able to survive the week with a majority of the team’s best offensive players watching from the sidelines.
The Browns will come into this matchup with the season basically lost with only two wins on the year. Cleveland is on the verge of ripping the team apart and rebuilding around promising young quarterback Brandon Weeden and running back Trent Richardson. Both players have been fairly impressive during their rookie seasons, but haven’t been good enough to lead the Browns to playoff contender status.
As of right now, the Steelers are slightly favored to get the win over the Browns on the road with the -1 point spread. Despite injuries, Pittsburgh will get the win in Cleveland.
Take the Steelers at -1.
