The Cleveland Cavaliers are still one of the worst teams in the NBA. All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving has been a breath of fresh air in a city still recovering from LeBron James leaving town in favor of the Miami Heat. Irving has proven to be a legitimate superstar in this league with a bright future if able to stay healthy.
Although the future appears to be bright for the Cavs with Irving at the helm, there’s no question the up-and-comer needs help on the roster in order for Cleveland to make the next step.
Fortunately, the Cavs were able to win the NBA Draft Lottery recently. The last time the Cavs won the lottery, Irving was selected out of Duke with the number one overall pick and it seemed as though hope was alive in Cleveland in the post LeBron era.
With the Cavs possessing the top pick in the upcoming 2013 NBA Draft, the team has an opportunity to take the best available player coming out of college. Nerlens Noel seems to be that player, but it appears the Cavs are willing to trade that top pick as well as many other picks throughout the draft to acquiring talent from around the league.
One player that is starting to get mentioned as a potential trade target for the Cavs is superstar Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves. With Love unable to see eye-to-eye with the team’s front office, the perennial All-Star being moved by Minnesota wouldn’t be all that shocking.
The top pick in the draft might be enough to convince the Timberwolves to pull the trigger on a deal to send Love to Cleveland and potentially also send Anderson Varejao to Minnesota.
It remains to be seen the direction the Cavs’ front office intends to take in the upcoming draft, but Love might be there for the taking.
