The Los Angeles Clippers officially introduced new head coach Doc Rivers on Tuesday after acquiring the one-time NBA champion from the Boston Celtics for a first-round draft pick. The arrival of Rivers likely signifies the signing of superstar point guard Chris Paul next month and the team staying relatively intact moving forward.
With the Clippers content with the current squad and coaching staff, Los Angeles will move forward without making any other moves with Boston nor can they do the league prohibiting more trades between these two teams until after next season.
Now that both teams will be moving on without making another deal to send future Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett to Los Angeles, the Celtics will be gauging interest around the league. Garnett will have to waive his no-trade clause in order to be dealt elsewhere, which could make things difficult, but the Brooklyn Nets have reportedly shown interest and that may intrigue the perennial All-Star forward.
The Nets made considerable improvement last season with the signing of perennial All-Star floor general Deron Williams and the trade to acquire Joe Johnson. Brooklyn clinched a playoff spot for the first time in quite some time while also providing hope for the future with Williams running the show in the backcourt.
Along with Williams and Johnson teaming up in Brooklyn, the Nets also saw Brook Lopez have arguably the best season of his career while being able to stay healthy throughout the season. Although the Nets made considerable progress and may be one of the top tier teams in the Eastern Conference with the same roster intact, the acquisition of Garnett may be the missing piece to the puzzle and a deal that may ultimately come to fruition if the Celtics believe it the right move and Garnett is content with making the move.
