With the Charlotte Bobcats having a 25% chance of winning the NBA Draft lottery on Wednesday night, owner Michael Jordan was crossing his fingers hoping the balls would bounce in his favor.
Unfortunately, the sixth NBA champion fell just short of the New Orleans Hornets in the draft lottery with the boys from the Big Easy grabbing the top spot. With the Hornets winning the lottery, New Orleans will be the likely destination for superstar Anthony Davis of the Kentucky Wildcats.
Obviously, the team is ecstatic about receiving the number one overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft with the prospect of selecting Davis, but that’s not the only things the team is happy about as they will also have the 10th overall pick. With that being said, the Hornets have a chance to rebuild around Davis and another promising rookie with scoring machine Eric Gordon leading the way.
Here is how the draft order looks heading into the 2012 NBA Draft:
2012 NBA Draft Order
1. New Orleans Hornets
2. Charlotte Bobcats
3. Washington Wizards
4. Cleveland Cavaliers
5. Sacramento Kings
6. Portland Trail Blazers
7. Golden State Warriors
8. Toronto Raptors
9. Detroit Pistons
10. New Orleans Hornets
Another big winner in the lottery was the Cleveland Cavaliers. Even though the Cavs are coming off a less than stellar season, they witnessed a star emerge in last year’s number one overall pick, Kyrie Irving. With the sixth pick in the first round, the Cavs will be able to bring in yet another young stud to help this team continue to recover from three-time NBA MVP LeBron James leaving town two years ago via free agency.
The Sacramento Kings and the Portland Trail Blazers are also potential big winners with high draft picks to help improve their already talented teams.
