After an impressive season in which the Minnesota Timberwolves threatened to make the NBA playoffs for the first time since Kevin Garnett was in town, the team that was once considered to the worst in the league is starting to make an impression and showing signs of a bright future in the process.
Kevin Love is quickly turning into one of the league’s premiere forwards and a potential perennial All-Star, the Timberwolves finally a new face of the franchise. Love is one of the few players in the league that has shown loyalty regardless of the outcome of the season. Not only is Love turning into a superstar faster than anyone could’ve predicted, but the team also got a boost from rookie sensation Ricky Rubio.
Now that Rubio and Love form a dynamic NBA duo in Minnesota, the front office needs to surround those two with talent in order to keep them in a Timberwolves uniform for the foreseeable future.
One move the team is seriously considering moving forward is signing four-time NBA All-Star and former Rookie of the Year in Brandon Roy. Even though Roy is an injury risk with chronic problems in both his knees, the former rising star addressed those problems with the revolutionary procedure that Kobe Bryant made famous last summer.
There’s no telling how well Roy will respond to the knee treatment, but he and his doctors feel confident that he can make a comeback. Not only is Roy ready to get back to work in the NBA, but the Timberwolves are ready to swoop him up before anyone else as they are reportedly prepared to offer him a two-year deal.
It is uncertain the terms of the deal or how much Minnesota is willing to pay for test run, but Roy may very well be playing alongside Rubio in the backcourt next season.
