After parting ways with longtime head coach and future Hall of Famer George Karl following the 2013 NBA playoffs, a lot of people were wondering what direction the team was trying to take after winning 57 games and having one of the best seasons in recent memory. Although the Nuggets were bounced by the Golden State Warriors in the postseason, Denver still saw signs of promise moving forward with arguably one of the most talented young squads in the league.

With Karl out and Masai Ujiri heading to the Toronto Raptors, the Nuggets will look much different next season and for the foreseeable future. The team will remain relatively intact in terms of players with Ty Lawson, JaVale McGee and Danilo Gallinari all set to return, but uncertainty surrounds Andre Igoudala who’ll test free agency during the off-season.

Ironically enough, Karl won the NBA Coach of the Year award for the first time in his career last season. The Nuggets felt it was time to part ways regardless with Karl wanting a new deal and the team unwilling to pay his asking price despite his success coaching in Denver.

Over the past few weeks, the speculation has run rampant around the league regarding the coaching vacancies. Recently retired player Jason Kidd was hired by the Brooklyn Nets, Doc Rivers appears to be headed to the Los Angeles Clippers and the Memphis Grizzlies promoted in-house after refusing to retain Lionel Hollins.

It appears that another coaching vacancy is no longer available with Brian Shaw finally getting the opportunity to be a head coach in the league with the Nuggets. Shaw has been searching for a head coaching gig for some time, but hasn’t been able to land a job until now and seems to be the perfect fit and ideal candidate to replace Karl.
