The New York Yankees made several changes to their roster lineup tonight before the game against Tampa Bay. They have injuries occurring right and left.
The Yankees have promoted Chad Moeller, a veteran catcher, from AAA Scranton Wilkes Barre and placed Jorge Posada, catcher, to the 15-day disabled list. Posada was placed on the DL due to breaking a bone within his right foot. He has X-Rays done that didn’t show any damage, but when he underwent the scheduled MRI on Wednesday, the damage was there. The All-Star catcher is expected to miss about three to four weeks.
Moeller is scheduled to be backup for Francisco Cervelli, who is the initial backup for Jorge Posada. Moeller has a lot of experience as he has played with several different major league teams over the course of the last ten years and this is something that Joe Girardi, Yankees general manger, likes.
Another to be promoted from AAA was Kevin Russo, outfielder and infielder, with Mark Melancon, reliever, to be sent to Scranton Wilkes Barre. In addition, the 60-day disabled list received a name of a Yankee player, Nick Johnson, designated hitter due to back problems.
In addition, the Yankees were hoping that Nick Swisher would be added to the lineup; however, this wouldn’t be determined until right before the game as Swisher would participate in batting practice and let the manager know if he felt up to playing or not. Swisher has been out for four games so far due to his left biceps.
The Yankees have definitely made some changes to their game roster Thursday. The Yankees still have great players despite losing some of them from the lineup for Thursday’s game against Tampa Bay. Therefore, with the availability of other great players on the team and the addition of players promoted from AAA, these losses won’t affect the team too much.
UPDATE: It appears that after taking part in batting practice, Nick Swisher felt like he could be an asset to the team and was placed on the starting lineup for tonight’s game against Tampa Bay.
