Third baseman Alex Rodriguez is now back in the lineup for the New York Yankees after missing three weeks of playing a complete game – his last complete game played was on August 15. His first full game back will be Sunday with the Yankees going up against the Toronto Blue Jays.
He is scheduled to bat cleanup in fourth position for this game but that’s given since he just came off of the disabled list due to a strained left calf. As for his A-Rod’s injury, it occurred on August 16 against Detroit and it caused him to leave the game with only two at-bats. He attempted a comeback four days against the Mariners after initially straining his left calf but was unable to make it happen due to the pain and discomfort that he felt in his calf following (and during) his swing and run. With that said, the Yankees placed him on the DL to keep from injuring their third baseman further. Rodriguez was placed on the disabled list on August 21.
During his absence, however, the Yankees have pulled together quite nicely and have gone 11-3 and have an eight-game winning streak right now. This allows the Yankee to enter today’s game against the Blue Jays a 2.5 lead over their opponent in the American League East division. While they’ve been just fine without hi, there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that Rodriquez won’t help the Yankees bullpen gain more strength and push forward even more – probably gaining that ninth straight win.
A-Rod as well as Manager Joe Girardi of the Yankees feel that his calf is properly healed and that he is ready to get back into the game. He’ll join the team playing the Blue Jays and will come into the game hitting a .265 with 21 home runs and 97 runs batted in.
