The rumors appear to be true. The Chicago Cubs have made an addition to their team by signing reliever veteran Bob Howry today.
They will apparently be pro-rating the minimum payout in the Major League to Howry, which is $410,000. The announcement was made Friday just before the Cubs go into a three-game series with the Texas Rangers.
The Cubs are hoping that by signing 36-year-old right-handed Howry, they will be able to help him with his career while he helps them in stabilizing their bullpen as it is in drastic need of help. Howry has played for Chicago before and when he was with the team as a Cub, he was really awe-inspiring with the younger players and he was great in evening out everything in general.
Howry played for the Cubs from 2006 to 2008 and in 228.2 innings, he posted an ERA of 3.90. Howry then moved on to join the Arizona Diamondbacks where he struggled over the course of his initial 14 game appearances with an ERA of 10.67. He allowed a total of 17 runs in less than 15 innings and lost the sight and support of Diamondbacks’ coaches and managers. He was then released this last Monday from the Diamondbacks at which time the Cubs decided they would like to have him rejoin the team.
As previously stated, the Chicago Cubs will play against the Texas Rangers in Texas tonight for a three-game series. In order to make room on the roster for Howry to join the Cubs, rookie Justin Berg is to be optioned to AAA Iowa and David Patton is to be designated on assignment.
The Texas Rangers are the favorite to win tonight’s game and are looking to make this game their seventh consecutive victory at home.
