After an incredible rookie season, the Seattle Seahawks have decided to go all in with quarterback Russell Wilson. The team has become content in terms of making the quarterback the future face of the franchise in Seattle and as a result have traded backup Matt Flynn to the Oakland Raiders during the NFL off-season in order to avoid paying the large contract of the veteran only to hold a clipboard next season.
With the Seahawks dealing Flynn to Oakland and no viable backup in Seattle, the team has been on the lookout for another backup during the off-season. Although there have been plenty of viable options for the Seahawks on the open market, Pete Carroll weren’t content with an option behind Wilson until having worked out Matt Leinart, Tyler Thigpen, Seneca Wallace and Brady Quinn.
At first glance of the candidates for the Seahawks, Leinart appeared to make the most sense for Seattle with his history playing for Carroll at USC. Despite his history with the head coach and availability due to the apparent lack of interest from the Raiders to retain his services, the Seahawks will sign Quinn after being impressed with the former Notre Dame quarterbacks workout.
During the 2012 NFL season, Quinn was a resounding disappointment with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs had a serious problem at the quarterback position last season with Matt Cassel not cutting it and Quinn failing to make an impression in place of Cassel.
Despite an unimpressive stint with the Chiefs behind Cassel, Quinn was able to do enough to convince Carroll and company that he’s the right man for the job in Seattle for the 2013 NFL season. Quinn will likely be holding a clipboard once again with his new team unless Wilson goes down with injury.
