Over the past few months, the Seattle Seahawks have been looking to the future by improving the roster under Coach Pete Carroll. After a disappointing effort the past few seasons, changes needed to be made with plenty of upgrades in different areas with an emphasis at the quarterback position.
Once veteran Matt Hasselbeck decided to leave Seattle via free agency by signing with the Tennessee Titans, the Seahawks were given the green light to bring in another gunslinger to fill the void under center. Unfortunately, the options were very good with Seattle settling with Tarvaris Jackson last year.
After subpar results, Jackson has gone from being the starter in Seattle last season to most likely off the depth chart heading into the next preseason game against the Denver Broncos. Not only is Carroll favoring the newly acquired Matt Flynn and Russell Wilson, but the Seahawks may be seriously considering trading Jackson before the regular season begins on September 5.
One trade partner that might be willing to bring in Jackson is the Arizona Cardinals. With a similar quarterback situation in Arizona, the Cardinals might consider adding another veteran gunslinger to the equation after the recent injury to Kevin Kolb.
Last season, Jackson threw for 3,091 passing yards and 14 touchdowns. The 29-year old finished the season with a quarterback rating of 79.2 and really didn’t prove that he could be a legitimate starter under center despite throwing over 3,000 yards.
As of right now, it appears that the Seahawks will go with Flynn as the starter to begin the upcoming 2012 NFL season. Wilson is making an impression that might ultimately put some pressure on Flynn over the course of the regular season, but at this point in time it seems as though the team is confident in Flynn.
