The Philadelphia Eagles came into this NFL regular season with high hopes of contending for a Super Bowl title with their revamped squad led by superstar quarterback Michael Vick. In an attempt to secure the future of the franchise under center, the Eagles made a bold move the off-season by signing Michael Vick to a contract extension worth $100 million dollars over the next six years.
Along with inking Vick to a new deal, the Eagles were able to sign and trade for multiple Pro Bowlers like Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Steve Smith, Vince Young and Ronnie Brown. These moves instantly made the Eagles a legitimate title contender in the NFC Conference, but the contract extension for Vick was one move that people weren’t too sure about.
There is no question that Michael Vick is one of the most dynamic and talented quarterbacks in the league today, but with all the risks he takes on the football field he is an injury liability. Only once his NFL career has Vick played an entire 16-game regular season and with that being said the team was concerned about his health, but still decided to sign him to the lucrative extension over the next six seasons.
Unfortunately, the injury bug has already bitten the superstar quarterback after suffering a concussion in the Week 2 loss to his former team in the Atlanta Falcons. Ironically enough, Vick suffered the injury after colliding with a teammate, but the concussion was bad enough to keep him out the fourth quarter of that game.
In Week 3, the Philadelphia Eagles will be going head-to-head against the division rival Washington Redskins and so far the playing status of Michael Vick is uncertain. The Eagles believe that Vick will be ready to go on Sunday against the New York Giants.
