No team was talked about more during the NFL off-season and the NFL lockout than the Philadelphia Eagles. Not only did the Eagles sign starting quarterback Michael Vick to a very lucrative $100 million dollar contract extension, but also Philly was able to bring in big-name Pro Bowlers via free agency and through trades to seriously upgrade this squad on both sides of the football.
Despite all the upgrades and being able to make their new superstar quarterback a very rich man, the Philadelphia Eagles have quickly gone from a Super Bowl title contender to one of the worst teams in the NFL. The win over the St. Louis Rams was done in typical Philadelphia Eagles fashion with Vick under center, but has turned out to be the only win for this revamped squad in the first five weeks so far this season.
With a 1-4 record after losing to a surprisingly good Buffalo Bills squad in Week 5, the Philadelphia Eagles are in serious trouble and in danger of losing their chance to compete with the best of the best in the NFL this season. Along with their Super Bowl aspirations quickly disappearing, the Eagles have received a lot of criticism and seem to have a head coach on the hot seat.
During his time in Philly, Andy Reid has become a football God and is considered to be one of the best head coaches in the league, but with this terrible start to the season the longtime head coach might be on his way out.
The problems for the Eagles in the first five weeks of the season have been turnovers on offense and an inability to get stops on defense, but if Andy Reid can get this team turned around he might be able to redeem himself and save his job. On the other hand, if the Eagles don’t make the playoffs this season I won’t be surprised to see Andy Reid without a job in the NFL off-season.
