The New York Jets are coming off one of the most disappointing seasons in recent memory with the team finishing with a 6-10 record, missing the playoffs altogether and leaving a lot of questions to be answered.
Following the disappointing end to the season, the Jets’ front office decided drastic changes needed to be made heading into the off-season in order to right the ship in New York. Quarterback Tim Tebow, Mark Sanchez and head coach Rex Ryan were thought to be on the ones to be sent packing with talks of trades surrounding both quarterbacks and Ryan rumored to be fired at season’s end.
Surprisingly enough, the team chose to keep Ryan as the head coach for at least one more season and appear to be leaning towards keeping Sanchez. Tebow on the other hand may still be headed elsewhere either via trade or free agency due to being released.
Moves that have been made following the season were the firings of general manager Mike Tannenbaum and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano. Both moves weren’t all that surprising, but Ryan not being shown the door raised a lot of eyebrows.
Apparently, the Jets are finished making moves with Tebow’s fate still up in the air and the team reportedly gauging trade interest in arguably the NFL’s best defensive player Darrelle Revis.
Owner Woody Johnson has made it clear that he fully intends to trade Revis and hopes it will get done before the start of the 2013 NFL season. Revis will become a free agent at the end of the next season and the team isn’t very confident they can retain him for the long-term.
Revis was shocked by the recent trade rumors and appears to be ready to let the chips fall where they may. Plenty of teams have already shown interest in Revis with the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos and New England Patriots the most intriguing possibilities for the perennial Pro Bowler.
