Over the past few days, the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers have been working tirelessly on getting a deal done to pull off the first blockbuster trade of the soon-to-be NBA off-season. The Clippers have been adamant about acquiring head coach Doc Rivers and future Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett in a deal that would ultimately send DeAndre Jordan, Eric Bledsoe and draft picks to the Celtics.

At this point in time, the blockbuster deal has hit considerable snags in order to get this trade finalized. Rivers and Garnett seemed prepared to make the move to Los Angeles, but the Celtics are insisting Bledsoe comes to Boston in exchange. The Clippers are reluctant to part ways with Bledsoe with no assurances from Chris Paul on whether or not he’ll sign the five-year deal on the table next month.

Obviously, if the Clippers are able to acquire Garnett and Rivers as well as potentially bring in Paul Pierce as a free agent (if and when Boston buy him out), Paul’s outlook on the team’s immediate future will likely change or improve.

As of right now, these two teams are doing everything within their power to get this deal done and one condition of the Celtics may be to include Jason Terry or Courtney Lee. If the Clippers remain reluctant to trade Bledsoe to Boston, the Celtics want Terry or Lee sent to Los Angeles in this deal.

Although not completely out of the question, the Clippers have yet to express a desire not to receive one of these two veteran guards in the swap.

It’ll be interesting to see whether or not this deal ultimately goes through, but it seems clear that both teams are ready to wheel and deal in order to improve their squads for the immediate and distant future.
