Last season, the Indianapolis Colts were able to put the Peyton Manning era behind them. Although it was thought to be a long and hard process to rebuild without Manning at the helm under center, Indianapolis was able to punch their ticket to the NFL playoffs while being led by rookie quarterback and future face of the franchise, Andrew Luck.
With Luck instantly becoming the ideal player to replace Manning and keep the Colts a competitive team in the AFC, Indianapolis is in great position to remain a threat in the conference for years to come.
On Tuesday, the Colts were able to take another step closer to building this team into a force to be reckoned with in the running game with the addition of veteran running back Ahmad Bradshaw.
After a successful stint with the New York Giants, the team released Bradshaw after a new deal couldn’t be reached between the two sides. The Giants were looking in another direction and tired of Bradshaw’s injury problems over the past few years.
Although Bradshaw has been somewhat injury prone during his time in New York, Bradshaw is still a solid option at running back for the Colts and will almost certainly help the team moving forward.
Indianapolis was able to lock up Bradshaw for a decent price. Bradshaw signed a one-year deal with the Colts for a $1.1 million base salary and a $250,000 signing bonus. Not too bad for a player labeled injury and struggling to find a new team in the NFL over the past few months.
Bradshaw will join the backfield with Donald Brown and Vick Ballard. Although Brown was thought to be the starter, Ballard made an impression in his first season with the team and will likely be the starter unless Bradshaw can win the training camp battle in the months to come.
