Last season the Kansas City Chiefs emerged as one of the best teams in the NFL with the best running game in the league and an AFC West division title to their credit. With things on the up-and-up in Kansas City, the sky seemed to be the limit for the Chiefs as they had a young team intact and were solid on both sides of the football.
Unfortunately, right out of the gate this season the defending AFC West division champion Kansas City Chiefs were devastated by season-ending injuries to some of their best players on offense and defense. Without up-and-coming Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles and tight end Tony Moeaki, the Chiefs’ offense took two major blows and limited the options of quarterback Matt Cassel. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the Chiefs also lost their best defensive player in Eric Berry, but that hasn’t been all they have lost after Week 10.
Reportedly, the Kansas City Chiefs might have taken another major blow to their roster as starting quarterback Matt Cassel could be done for the year. With what is being called a significant injury to his throwing hand, Cassel’s season is in serious doubt right now. Cassel has said that he believes that he would be good to go against his former team in the New England Patriots in Week 11, but the team doctors think otherwise as this injury to his throwing hand is looking serious enough to end his season and give backup quarterback Tyler Palko a shot under center.
Tyler Palko seems to be the guy the Kansas City Chiefs will go with for the rest of the season, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see them go after a free agent veteran quarterback to fill the void.
