Carolina Panthers @ Detroit Lions Sun. Nov. 20, 2011 1 p.m. EST
After the first five weeks of the NFL regular season, the Detroit Lions were considered to be one of the elite teams in the league with a perfect 5-0 record and a seemingly unstoppable offense led by up-and-coming quarterback Matthew Stafford. Not only was the offense of Detroit firing on all cylinders, but the defense was transformed into a force to be reckoned with as second-year defensive beast Ndamukong Suh intimidating opposing offenses.
With the sky limit being the limit for this talented young football team, the Detroit Lions had their sights set on the playoffs and possibly a run at the Super Bowl. Even though the playoffs are still a strong possibility after Week 10, this team has started to struggle with only one win after their 5-0 start to the season.
In Week 11, the Detroit Lions will have a chance to get back on track as they are set to face off against the Carolina Panthers. Despite the fact that the Panthers have won just two games all season long, this team has given every opponent a run for their money this season and is by no means an easy win for the Lions.
The Detroit Lions’ defense will be solely concentrating on stopping rookie phenom Cam Newton in this matchup as the Carolina Panthers go as Newton goes. If the Lions can contain Newton, and I believe they will, Detroit will improve to 7-3 and edge closer to clinching a playoff spot in the NFC Conference.
As of right now, the Detroit Lions are favored to get the win over the Carolina Panthers with a -7 point spread. That spread is a bit risky considering the Lions’ struggles as of late, but I believe they will bounce back this week with a big win over the Panthers.
