The New England Patriots franchise is in the middle of a potential transitional phase with the team having to move forward without arguably the best offensive threat.
Veteran wide receiver and perennial Pro Bowler Wes Welker decided to sign with the Denver Broncos instead of returning to the Patriots in free agency. The move to pass on the Patriots offer wasn’t all that surprising, but it will definitely impact New England moving forward.
Along with the Patriots having to move forward without arguably their best wideout of all-time, New England will also have to deal with the often-injured superstar Rob Gronkowski. The All-Pro tight end has undergone five surgeries throughout this past regular season and off-season leading to speculation that he may never be able to stay healthy and might never be the same player.
With so much potentially changing in New England and Tom Brady not getting any younger, the team might have to start considering the future. One option at the quarterback position was thought to be backup Tim Tebow. Although Tebow may ultimately be done in the NFL, the two-time BCS champion was thought to potentially benefit greatly from learning from Brady and the coaching of Bill Belichick.
Unfortunately for Tebow, no team in the league has shown interest in the quarterback and the Patriots don’t want anything to do with him. Belichick was rumored to “hate” Tebow’s game with a passion. Belichick’s distain for Tebow was thought to be enough to keep him away from New England.
Apparently, Belichick doesn’t hate Tebow, but still doesn’t favor the quarterback’s style of play.
As of right now, Tebow is a player without a team and a very uncertain future moving forward. There’s no telling whether or not another team in the league will take a chance on Tebow, but New England definitely isn’t interested.
