Ever since second-year quarterback Tim Tebow became the starter for the Denver Broncos, the criticism and media attention surrounding the former Heisman trophy winner has been relentless. Whether the media is heavily criticizing him or making him out to be the savior of the Broncos, Tebow has been talked about more than any quarterback or player in the NFL this season.
Despite winning six straight games and seven of the last eight before losing to the New England Patriots in Week 15, the Denver Broncos’ coaching staff and John Elway haven’t been sold on the fact that Tim Tebow was the future face of the franchise. With Tebow’s unorthodox style of quarterback play, Elway has been one of his biggest critics and has probably been cringing with every snap that the former Florida Gator takes for Denver.
With that being said, it became apparent that the Denver Broncos would be willing to make a change if given the opportunity in the 2012 NFL draft or via trade. After the loss to the Patriots where Tebow showed that he can play well when forced to pass, Elway has changed his stance on the Broncos’ starting quarterback by saying the following about Tim Tebow:
“Tim Tebow’s not going anywhere. I mean, he’s going to be a Bronco and we’re going to do everything we can and hopefully he’s that guy.” –John Elway
This is the first real endorsement for Tim Tebow by John Elway and that could be great news for the up-and-coming quarterback moving forward. Whether or not Elway maintains that stance remains to be seen, but right now things are promising for Tebow as he may have secured his role as the Denver Broncos’ starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
