As arguably two of the most intimidating defenses in the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets going head-to-head in Week 4 will be intriguing to say the least.

After the first two weeks of the season, no one disputed the fact that the 49ers were clearly the best team in the league. The offense was vastly improved with Randy Moss, Mario Manningham and a confident Alex Smith as well as a defense that was considered to be elite without much debate around the league.

Unfortunately, San Francisco was given somewhat of a wakeup call in Week 3 with an unexpected loss. The Minnesota Vikings were able to figure out a way to contain the revamped 49ers’ offense and get the best of arguably the most talented defense in the league this season.

In an effort to get right back on track as a legitimate Super Bowl title contender, San Francisco will attempt to bounce back against the Jets in Week 4.

Despite the Jets supporting a 2-1 record and a first place standing in the AFC East division, New York will be heading into this game without arguably its best defensive player. Superstar cornerback Darrelle Revis has been ruled out for the season after suffering a torn ACL in his knee last week. Without Revis, the Jets’ defense may prove to be even more vulnerable than it has been thus far this season.

As of right now, the 49ers have been given the edge in this matchup of defensive juggernauts with a -5 point spread. The only thing the Jets have going for them in Week 4 is playing at home, but I don’t believe that’ll be enough to hold of Jim Harbaugh’s squad.

Take the 49ers at -5.
