Once the 2012 NFL season officially got underway, the consensus around the league and amongst NFL analysts was that the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens were destined to meet in the AFC Conference Championship once again.
With both teams showcasing an ability to light up the scoreboard with top tier quarterbacks and an improved receiving corps, the Patriots and Ravens could simply outscore their opponents. New England having an unstoppable offense is no surprise, but Baltimore had seemingly turned the corner with Joe Flacco coming into his own last season.
The one thing that divides both of these legitimate Super Bowl title contenders is on the defensive side of the football. The Patriots seem to do enough to come out alive defensively, but the Ravens pride themselves on defense with veterans Ray Lewis and Ed Reed leading the way.
Unfortunately, both teams came out of Week 2 with their first losses of the season. Tom Brady and company fell to the Arizona Cardinals and John Harbaugh’s squad were unable to get passed Michael Vick’s Philadelphia Eagles.
Needless to say, these two teams want to get back on track to avoid going 1-2 to start the year. This will make for an all-out battle between arguably two of the best teams in the league.
As of right now, Baltimore is the favorite playing at home with a -3 point spread. The Ravens are as dangerous as any team in the league at home, but I’m not sure they’ll be able to overcome Bill Belichick’s squad that will be extremely hunger to prove that last week’s loss was a fluke.
This will be the game of the week in my opinion with the Patriots coming out on top.
