After Week 5’s loss to the division rival New England Patriots, the New York Jets are in trouble as they have quickly gone from a legitimate Super Bowl title contender to a team that might be on the outside looking in on the playoff picture this season. Despite having one of the most talented defensive squads in the NFL, Rex Ryan just hasn’t been able to get the job done on offense this season and as a result made a move to try and correct some problems.
Reportedly, the New York Jets have traded recently acquired free agent veteran wide receiver Derrick Mason to the Houston Texans. The signing of Mason in the off-season was thought to be a smart move for the Jets, but that hasn’t turned out to be the case with the veteran wideout being a problem in the locker room and not producing as anticipated on the field.
With just 13 catches in five games, Derrick Mason was obviously not producing the way the team expected him to and that lead to 15-year veteran being dealt to the Houston Texans who are in desperate need of a replacement for Pro Bowl wide receiver Andre Johnson. Now that Johnson is nursing a hamstring injury that will keep him out another two weeks, the Texans needed some short-term help and they seem to have found it in the form of Derrick Mason.
This move by the New York Jets has thrown up a lot of red flags on the team that was once dubbed a Super Bowl title contender with another veteran wide receiver Plaxico Burress questioning the move because he believes that he has done no better that his former teammate and nor has star wideout Santonio Holmes.
