Kansas City Chiefs @ San Diego Chargers Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 8:20 p.m. ET

Every single year during the Norv Turner era, the San Diego Chargers have been infamously slow starters and always climbing their way back up the standings in the second half of the season.

Even though that has been the case in years’ past, this time around seems much different with the team beginning to fall apart. One of the main reasons for the struggles of the Chargers has been the play of quarterback Philip Rivers.

In the first seven games of the regular season, Rivers has thrown for 1,646 yards, 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions with a quarterback rating of 82.4. Although these numbers aren’t awful in comparison to some quarterbacks around the league this season, Rivers hasn’t been getting the job done as of late with five of those interceptions coming in the last three games that have all resulted in losses.

With a record of 3-4 heading into Week 9, Rivers and company are on the verge of letting this season get out of reach in terms of contending for the AFC West division and or clinching a playoff berth. There’s no question the talent of this football team on both sides of the ball, but San Diego has struggled to get the job done consistently and as a result is on the brink of another disappointing season.

In Week 9, the Chargers will face off against the division rival Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are in a similar position with their quarterback situation as neither Matt Cassel nor Brady Quinn has played well enough to lead this team.

As of right now, the Chargers are the heavy favorites to come out on top at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego with a -10 point spread. This is a bit high for a team that couldn’t even put away the lowly Cleveland Browns last week.

Take the Chiefs at +10.
