Kansas City Chiefs shock the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football

Every single year the San Diego Chargers come into the NFL regular season with high hopes of dominating the competition in the AFC West division and making it all the way to the Super Bowl. With all the talent the Chargers have on both sides of the football, the consensus has been that it is just a matter of time before Philip Rivers and company go the distance and win a Super Bowl title.

Unfortunately, despite all the talented players on both sides of the ball, the Chargers have been a perennial disappointment and never able to achieve the ultimate goal of becoming Super Bowl champions. The AFC West division has always been something that the Chargers have been able to dominate with relative ease, but with the emergence of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Oakland Raiders over the last two years this team has finally been challenged.

Coming into Monday Night Football in Week 8, the San Diego Chargers were trying to bounce back against the division rival Kansas City Chiefs after losing to the New York Jets a week earlier. The consensus was that the Chargers were favorites and this game would be nothing more than a tune-up for Norv Turner’s squad, but that didn’t turn out to be the case.

The Chiefs may have suffered some devastating injuries this season by losing Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles, safety Eric Berry and tight end Tony Moeaki for the year. Despite all these injuries to keep players on both sides of the football, the Chiefs have been able to get back on track and now have won two straight against AFC West division opponents while forcing a three-way tie for the division lead with the Raiders and the Chargers.

On Monday night, the Chiefs took complete control of the contest against the Chargers as they were able to stay in front for the majority of the game before being forced into overtime. In the overtime period, Kansas City put the nail in the coffin with a game-winning field goal from kicker Ryan Succop, 23-20.
