The race for the AFC West division title is really starting to get interesting after Week 9 with three teams in the division have identical 4-4 records and the Denver Broncos starting to emerge as a legitimate force to be reckoned with. At this point time, Tim Tebow and company are probably out of the running for the division title, but the Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and surprisingly the Kansas City Chiefs are neck-and-neck with anything being possible.
Here are the three teams in the running and a little breakdown:
Kansas City Chiefs (4-4)
The Chiefs were really banged up right out of the gate this season with Jamaal Charles, Tony Moeaki and Eric Berry all going down with season-ending injuries. Not only did three of their best players go down for the year, but the team was playing awful and seemed out of the running in the AFC West division.
Now things have changed after the Chiefs beat the Chargers and the Raiders in consecutive weeks. The loss to the lowly Miami Dolphins in Week 9 changes things, but if the Chiefs can rebound they will have a chance to defend their title.
San Diego Chargers (4-4)
The Chargers a very talented football team that contend with any team in the league when firing on all cylinders, but quarterback Philip Rivers has struggled this season with his interceptions and the team has played poorly as a result with three straight losses to the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers.
This team has a reputation to struggle and bounce back every year, but if Rivers can’t turn it around the Chargers will be in trouble.
Oakland Raiders (4-4)
Without Pro Bowl running back Darren McFadden, the Oakland Raiders have really struggled to get back on track, but new quarterback Carson Palmer does look like he is getting better after throwing for 300+ yards and three touchdowns in Week 9. Palmer did throw three interceptions for the second straight game, but he is definitely improving.
If McFadden gets back healthy and Palmer starts to cut down the turnovers this team has a solid shot at winning the division title.
