New England Patriots @ Pittsburgh Steelers Sun. Oct. 30, 2011 4:15 p.m. EST
One of the most anticipated games of this NFL regular season will get underway this weekend when Tom Brady’s New England Patriots travel to Heinz Field to take on Troy Polamalu and the lockdown defense of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
About a month ago, this game would have been considered to be just another easy win for Bill Belichick and company with the Steelers continuing to struggle, but the storied Pittsburgh franchise has been able to turn things around as of late with three straight wins over the Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Arizona Cardinals. After a devastating Week 1 loss to the division rival Baltimore Ravens (35-7), the defending AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers were thought to be an aging football team that might not be able to contend with the best of the best in the AFC Conference this season. With all the big-name veterans on the Steelers defense no longer being young bucks, the consensus was that the Steelers were in for a long disappointing season in which the Ravens would take over as the best team in the AFC North division. After replacing Kyle Orton in the second half of the loss to the division rival San Diego Chargers in Week 5, Tim Tebow put on a show and almost brought the Denver Broncos from behind to get the win. If recently traded wide receiver Brandon Lloyd (St. Louis Rams) hadn’t dropped a two-point conversion pass from Tebow, the Broncos could have gone on to win that game and gained some ground in the AFC West division. #1 Green Bay Packers (6-0)
The cheese heads were able to do it again in Week 6 as they made easy work of the lowly St. Louis Rams, 24-3. Even though this wasn’t as dominant a performance as many expected offensively, Aaron Rodgers and company did enough to get the win and improve to a perfect 6-0 record.
Not until Week 8 will be the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers get tested as they will almost certainly improved to 7-0 with a win over the division rival Minnesota Vikings next week and could have their hands full against the San Diego Chargers in Week 8. Continue Reading…
San Diego Chargers @ New York Jets Sun. Oct. 23, 2011 1 p.m. EST
It might be time to hit the panic button for Rex Ryan and his New York Jets as they are not the same team they have been over the last two years and are competing against two very good teams in the AFC East in the up-and-coming Buffalo Bills and the always dominant New England Patriots. Even though the Jets are coming off a win over the division rival Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football, Mark Sanchez and company will need to play extremely well in the second half of the NFL regular season just to clinch a playoff spot in the AFC Conference. It seems that the Washington Redskins and the Minnesota Vikings haven’t been too happy with their new quarterback situation as both teams have decided to make a change heading into Week 7. The switch in Washington wasn’t much of a surprise as no one gave Rex Grossman much of a chance to be the starter throughout the regular season, but the switch in Minnesota to rookie Christian Ponder and benching of veteran Donovan McNabb has turned some heads. The Oakland Raiders are definitely on the right track this season as they have already gotten half as many wins this season (4) as they did last season (8) and look like they could be playoff bound for the first time since 2002. The Raiders did suffer a big loss recently with the death of longtime owner and NFL legend Al Davis, but the team continues to fire on all cylinders and has become a legitimate contender in the AFC Conference this season. Dallas Cowboys @ New England Patriots Sun. Oct. 16, 2011 4:15 p.m. EST
Once again quarterback Tony Romo has been blamed for all the problems the Dallas Cowboys are going through this season as America’s Team comes into Week 6 with a disappointing 2-2 record. At this point in time, it has gotten pretty ridiculous in Dallas when it comes to Romo and the kind of negative press the Pro Bowl gunslinger gets on a weekly basis. There is no question that Romo has single-handedly blown games with his costly mistakes, but to blame him for everything going wrong in Big D is a little too much. Continue Reading…
Cleveland Browns @ Oakland Raiders Sun. Oct. 16, 2011 4:05 p.m. EST
This season the Oakland Raiders seem to be improving every single week as they continue to play well and beat playoff caliber teams like the Houston Texans and the New York Jets. With that being said and the fact that the Raiders will have rookie quarterback Terrell Pryor giving them insurance under center, Oakland could be on their way to a blowout this weekend as they play host to the Cleveland Browns. After Week 5’s loss to the division rival New England Patriots, the New York Jets are in trouble as they have quickly gone from a legitimate Super Bowl title contender to a team that might be on the outside looking in on the playoff picture this season. Despite having one of the most talented defensive squads in the NFL, Rex Ryan just hasn’t been able to get the job done on offense this season and as a result made a move to try and correct some problems.
