New England Patriots @ Pittsburgh Steelers Sun. Oct. 30, 2011 4:15 p.m. EST
One of the most anticipated games of this NFL regular season will get underway this weekend when Tom Brady’s New England Patriots travel to Heinz Field to take on Troy Polamalu and the lockdown defense of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
About a month ago, this game would have been considered to be just another easy win for Bill Belichick and company with the Steelers continuing to struggle, but the storied Pittsburgh franchise has been able to turn things around as of late with three straight wins over the Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Arizona Cardinals.
Obviously, the last three games weren’t against elite teams in the NFL, but these wins were definitely a step in the right direction for the Pittsburgh Steelers as they were able to reclaim the top spot in the AFC North division after the Baltimore Ravens lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football. The Cincinnati Bengals (4-2) continue to put pressure on the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North, but if Big Ben and company can get a win against the New England Patriots in Week 8 they can begin to gain a lead within the division.
The New England Patriots are in a similar position in the AFC East division as they try to distance themselves from the New York Jets (4-3) and the Buffalo Bills (4-2). With a win over the Steelers, the Patriots will have a good lead in the division and will be one step closer to clinching the division title.
As of right now, the New England Patriots are favored to come out on top in this showdown between AFC Conference heavyweights with a -3 point spread. This spread is right on the money in my opinion as the Patriots should get the win and cover.
