Last week it was reported that the Charlotte Bobcats were on the hunt for a new head coach after firing Paul Silas. The 2011-12 NBA season was an absolute disaster for the Bobcats as they recorded the worst winning percentage (.106) in NBA history and were widely considered the worst team in the league with little hope for the future.
Despite drafting promising rising star Kemba Walker in the 2011 NBA draft, the Bobcats weren’t able to compete with lackluster performances all season long. The future of the franchise is very much up in the air at this point with no telling whether or not Charlotte can bounce back next season or in the foreseeable future.
Fortunately, the Bobcats have about a 25% percentage of landing the number one overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft in which they would almost certainly take Anthony Davis of Kentucky. This acquisition might make the Bobcats that much better moving forward, but they will be concentrating on hiring a new head coach to help make that transition.
One of the candidates for the vacant head coaching position in Charlotte was Orlando Magic’s assistant coach Patrick Ewing. With Ewing having a close relationship with owner Michael Jordan, the NBA legend was invited to interview for the job, but it appears that he was also told by Jordan that he will not be the new Bobcats’ coach.
With Ewing out of the running, the three potential frontrunners to land the job are Jerry Sloan, Nate McMillan and Brian Shaw. Sloan would be the logical decision to for the new head coach in Charlotte considering his extensive experience, but Shaw and McMillan appear to be in the running with the team still trying to make a decision.
