After losing Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals to the Miami Heat in South Beach, the Boston Celtics were looking to bounce back in Game 2 on the road before heading to Beantown for Game 3 and Game 4 at TD Garden. Despite seemingly taking control in the fourth quarter and containing both Dwyane Wade and LeBron James offensively, the Heat were still able to rally from behind and force overtime.

During overtime, perennial All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo put on a show by scoring all the Celtics’ 12 points. Unfortunately, the 12 points in overtime and career-high 44 from Rondo wasn’t enough to hold of LeBron and company as the Heat ultimately won Game 2, 115-111.

This loss may be the straw that broke the camel’s back for the Celtics as they literally gave it their all in this game from start to finish. The Big 3 of the Celtics finished with a combined 52 points with Paul Pierce leading the way with 21 points, but it was Rondo that stole the show with a historic performance as he did something that no other player in league history has done by scoring 44 points, grabbing eight rebounds and handing out 10 assists.

Despite the incredibly impressive performance by Rondo, the Celtics are now in a 2-0 hole in this series with the Heat. Fortunately, the series will shift to Boston for the next two games in which the Celtics have a decent chance of evening up the series at two games apiece.

The question heading into Game 3 in Boston is whether or not the Celtics have anything left. With such a spirited effort in Game 2, the tank may very well be empty for another strong effort in Game 3.
