Cleveland Cavaliers trade J.J. Hickson to Sacramento Kings for Omri Casspi

After landing a big fish in the 2011 NBA draft by drafting scoring machine Jimmer Fredette out of BYU, the Sacramento Kings weren’t done improving their struggling franchise as they just made a trade to send Omri Casspi to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for J.J. Hickson. Along with the Cavs receiving Casspi, they will also acquire a 2012 lottery pick originally from the Houston Rockets.

This is an interesting move as it comes so quickly after the 2011 NBA draft, but it is a move in the right direction in my opinion. Casspi was a solid contributor for the Kings over the last couple of years and a player that could have a major role on an NBA team in the near future, but Hickson address a need at forward for the Kings and is a smart move.

J.J. Hickson was somewhat of a bust last season for the Cleveland Cavaliers as he struggled to play as well as he did as LeBron James’ sidekick, but this kid could have a promising future with his new team in Sacramento. With rookie Jimmer Fredette, star point guard Tyreke Evans and up-and-coming center DeMarcus Cousins now in the fold in Sacramento the Kings could have a sold chance of becoming relevant in the NBA for the first time since the Chris Webber era.

The competition is tough in the Pacific division as the Sacramento Kings have to compete with the likes of the Los Angeles Lakers and a much improved Los Angeles Clippers squad, but over time they might be able to close the gap and eventually get back into playoff contention in the Western Conference.

Next season the Sacramento Kings will take on a whole new look and might be the surprise team in the West.

I am glad we, as in Cleveland, shopped J.J. I have never been a big fan of him and I think he will only be as good as the team he is on. Now that he has Evans and Jimmer I think he will finally become the player he was suppose to. He reminds of a Josh Smith. Not athletically, but in the sense that Josh Smith wouldn’t be as good as he is if he wasn’t around Crawford, Johnson, and Horford. But all in all I am glad Hickson is no longer a Cavalier. I just wish we could have gotten a little more for him or have packaged him in a deal with Baron.
